Information About Lauren

Personal Description: I am a really friendly, approachable person who finds it easy to build up a good rapport with people of all ages. I hold a degree in from Roehampton University and have just completed my postgraduate studies in early years teaching. I have recently opened a tuition centre in Battersea where I tutor maths and English to children of all ages and abilities.

One of my personal aims of private tutoring is to ensure that all children gain enthusiasm and confidence in their learning as I believe that confidence is key to success. I have worked with many children who lack confidence and giving those children a boost in their confidence often brings about a new level of enthusiasm towards the subject and therefore vast improvement.

Tutoring Experience: I have been tutoring since the age of 16. I have also worked in primary and secondary schools with children of all abilities. I have worked for private tuition centres as a maths and English tutor for the last 6 years. I have worked for Explore Learning and NumberWorks which are two of the largest providers of private tuition currently in the UK. I also have a Diploma in Teaching with English and have carried out three teaching placements in three different schools. I have experience of teaching children in a class based setting teaching all National Curriculum subjects. I have been working as a private home tutor now for 6 months and currently work with six children on a weekly basis with maths and English. I am extremely dedicated to the wellbeing of every child I teach and the parents of the children I currently work with have received very positive end of year school reports.

I have experience in conducting training for the 11+ exam through teaching 11+ sessions to groups of children weekly at Explore Learning.

Tutoring Approach: My first session with a tutee will involve getting to know the individual child, finding out what needs the child has in terms of school work and what they might be finding difficult. It is important in the first few sessions to build a trusting relationship with the child so that they feel comfortable working with me. From this initial session I will then work with the child on a weekly basis with any maths or English support they need. I will prepare worksheets, stories, test papers and other resources for every session tailored to suit the individual child. I usually involve as many interactive games in my teaching as possible as this gets the children excited and helps them to remember what we have been discussing. Every couple of weeks I try to give each child a short task to do which might involve for English writing a diary extract, writing a newspaper article or doing a longer comprehension activity. This allows for myself as well as the parents to see how their child is progressing.

Every session is tailored completely to the child and the parents. If a parent wants their child to learn all of their times tables then I will incorporate a times table activity into each session until we have reached our target. Each child gets set a number of targets at the beginning of the tutoring sessions and these get reviewed every few weeks (depending on the kind of target we have set.)

From Tazina (5/5): (Secondary Maths) My children love learning with Lauren. She is encouraging.Always punctual.I always see their work afterwards and Lauren always goes over it with me indicating areas they have worked on and areas which need more improvement. It is the best decision I have ever made and my children are benefiting from it.

Reply from Lauren: I am pleased the girls are enjoying our sessions together. They are a pleasure to teach and always put in 100% effort.
