Information About Kevin

Personal Description: A Business Studies Graduate who became a buyer/category manager in the multiple retail sector ( Waitrose, JS, Morrisons) and I have now carried out a major career change into the teaching profession, teaching business studies. I feel that using the business skills and experience gained from 25 years in the commercial world has given me ‘real’ understanding of how business & retail operates today.

Tutoring Experience: Since starting my PGCE qualification I have successfully taught at Guildford College and I am lecturing to adult inmates at Coldingly Prison and am particularly strong on 'One to One' tuition.

Tutoring Approach: I have a very calm and gentle approach to my students and with my real world commercial experience find I can effectively engage with the students.

Qualifications:
  • 2010: PGCE, Degree in Business Studies, & a Diploma in Marketing, - Guildford College (PGCE)
  • 1983: 25 years of Commercial experience as a Retail Buyer (Waitrose, JS, Morrisons) - UWE (Bachelors)
  • 2008: Currently a Sessional Lecturer having worked at Guildford College and now teaching Adult Offenders at Coldingly Prison. - HMP Coldingly (College)

From Jo (5/5): (A-Level Business Related) Kevin is extremely patient and encouraging and has good lesson plans. After only 3 sessions Jack was feeling far more confident and getting a better knowledge and understanding of the subject. I will definitely be using Kevin before Jack's next exams in June.

Reply from Kevin: I find Jack to be a very keen student who is inquisitive and very willing to learn, he just needed to know how to structure his essays.

I had a retake to do in June '11 and managed to pass and obtain a 2:1 with the help of Kevin. He helped to break down the case study I was working with and really helped me to understand what theory was relevant. And all that in one 2 hour session… Thanks Kevin.

From Carolyn (5/5): (A-Level Business Related) We have only just started using Kevin as a tutor but he would never have made it passed the first week if he wasn't any good as my son has become quite demotivated and stressed as the AS exam approaches. So the very fact that he wants to continue using him, suggests Kevin must possess patience, motivational as well as good business tutoring skills. He seems a very pleasant and polite gentleman to me.
