Personal Description: I am a graduate of St Catherine's College, Oxford, where during my first year I obtained my teacher's diploma from Trinity College of Music. Piano is my first instrument, and flute my second, but I also play - and teach - clarinet, saxophone, oboe, recorder and electronic keyboard.
Tutoring Experience: I have been teaching music for nearly 30 years, starting as an assistant to my own teacher before going to university. I teach piano, keyboard, woodwind and theory, from beginner to diploma level. Examination Boards used include the Associated Board, Trinity College of Music and the London College of music. I am also experienced in aiding preparation for Standard to Advanced Higher grades, in both performance and written exams, and have helped pupils with auditions for national bands and orchestras.
Tutoring Approach: I enjoy teaching on a one-to-one basis at all ages and stages. My aim is to discover strengths and weaknesses alike, and work with my pupils to build on both, developing self-confidence in their abilities. I teach in a purpose-built music room with MIDI facilities available on both the digital piano and electronic keyboard, plus software to assist with composition and theory tasks. For the less technologically minded, I also have a Broadwood upright piano!
