Information About Julie

Personal Description: Hi, my name is Julie (or Miss if you prefer). I have worked in the City, in the computer industry, as a school teacher and a stage-hand! I currently help run a business with my partner providing sound systems and staging (hence the stage-hand). I have a 16 year old son, a German Shepherd and a tortoise - but don't worry, I leave them behind when I come to you.
** Please note the only evening sessions I currently have available are on Tuesdays and Fridays **

Tutoring Experience: I have a BEd (Hons)(Primary) and have taught in mainstream schools for 7 years. I am qualified to teach all subjects up to KS2 Level and have experience in tutoring for the Colchester Selective Schools Entrance Exams (11+). I have A' Levels in Maths, Further Maths & Physics, and specialised in Maths and ICT at college. I am able to teach Maths to GCSE level (AQA & Edexcel, Foundation and Higher) and have been doing so as a private tutor for the last few years. I also have experience of tutoring IGCSE Maths at Higher and Foundation levels.

Tutoring Approach: I take a personal approach to tutoring - we start from what you know and work from there. If you don't understand something then it's my job to explain it differently and find a way in which you can. We are all very different and what may have worked with someone else might not be the right way for you.

From Anthea (5/5): (Primary Maths) Since tutoring started Nathan's maths has improved no end. He returned to school following the summer break with enthusiasm and confidence. He finds the hour fun and competitive which he loves. He even looks forward to his hour - which is something I never thought would happen. I would not hesitate to recommend. Thanks.

Reply from Julie: Thank you for your comments. N is a pleasure to work with - even though he beats me so often at maths games!

From Nadine (5/5): (Primary Maths) My little girl who is nearly 7 yrs has only been working with Julie for 2 weeks now and really looks forward to her coming. She understands this is a maths lesson at home and needs to concentrate, but Julie has a flare for making the lessons fun, giving praise and encouragement which in my opinion is crucial to building self-confidence and understanding. Really pleased, and 'thank you' Julie.

Reply from Julie: Thank you for your comments, your daughter is a pleasure to work with.

From Rebecca (5/5): (GCSE Maths) Julie has just finished preparing my daughter for her GCSE Maths examinations. She went beyond the formal teaching role to reinforce and lift the confidence of my daughter. From the outset, she worked informally and with great rapport to facilitate my daughters learning, gradually instilling the ‘can do’ attitude. It is true to say that my daughters’ school did a lot more harm than good to her formal education in mathematics. It is measure of Julie's way of working that, in a short time, she was able to repair some of the worst damage and arouse my daughter’s interest and enjoyment of maths again. I cannot recommend Julie too highly. Outstanding.

Reply from Julie: Many thanks. R was a pleasure to work with and I wish her every success for the future.

From Lesley (5/5): (GCSE Maths) Julie is a very nice lady and a great tutor my daughter looks forward to her lessons highly recommended.

Reply from Julie: Thank you for your positive comments. H is a pleasure to work with

From Helen (5/5): (Secondary Maths) Julie is great! She contacted me to arrange a meeting to first discuss what we wanted out of the lessons. I thought this was a good idea as the children got to meet her and ask any questions they might have had. Having Julie come to our home to conduct the lessons is also great.

Julie is very friendly and the children already are looking forward to working with her,
A positive start to the New Year 2011!

Thank You First Tutors for finding us a great maths tutor!

Helen Balisson

Reply from Julie: Many thanks Helen, it was great meeting you all and I look forward to working with the children.

Julie

From Lorraine (5/5): (GCSE Maths) Julie has been a tremendous help to both our daughters. Her easy friendly manner has allowed both girls to feel relaxed and eager to participate in the maths tuition.
Both girls agree that the lessons have been extremely helpful and allow them the 1-1 support needed to cover areas within their individual abilities and concentrate on areas that have been concerning them.
This is the first time we have used private tuition and Julie has proven to be professional and reliable and has taught and improved both girl’s knowledge and confidence with their maths.
With thanks
Lorraine Higgins

Reply from Julie: Many thanks for your comments. Both girls are a pleasure to work with.

Julie

From Lorna (5/5): (Primary Maths) Great tutor very friendly and flexable. I have two children both different ages and different abilities but she tailors the sessions to meet thier needs and thier interests. I would have no problem with recommending Julie to anyone who needs a private tutor.
