Personal Description: I graduated from Leeds University in June 2010 with a BSc in Mathematics (first class), so if you're struggling with some of the basics or want to make the jump from A to A* with a little more understanding, I'll be able to help.

I'm located in the Burley area of Leeds but I don't mind travelling a short distance by bike or bus.

Tutoring Experience: I have previously tutored one student for 6 months before moving away from the area, and during that time we both felt that he was making good progress in his studies.

In the past I've helped out at some maths puzzle days run by the university by engaging with the students and giving them advice on how to approach a challenge.

I'm also an Assistant Scout Leader so I'm used to teaching new skills to children and helping them to grow confident. I have a valid CRB check for both of these roles.

Tutoring Approach: Each week I determine which areas the tutee has found most challenging in their maths lessons and then address this by explaining any concepts that they didn't understand first time round. After this we look at some class or homework questions and the methods needed to solve the problem. I prompt them to apply what they know so that they can figure out each step without being explicitly told what to do which I believe helps them develop problem solving skills and a better comprehension of the topic.
