Information About Imogen

Personal Description: I am a friendly and intelligent university graduate now working at the British Museum.

I enjoy tutoring because it can be so varied, and spending time with new people means I learn a lot too. Patience and thoughtfulness are two of my strong points, so at the moment I feel I am best suited helping people who want to develop confidence in their spoken and written English, particularly university students. If all goes well I would like to offer tutoring in Art History and Anthropology.

I have lived in London for just over a year, and love it here. In my spare time I enjoy going to galleries and museums, catching classic movies, and writing for blogs. At the moment I am in the middle of a course in Fiction Writing at Birkbeck, University of London.
Tutoring Experience: I have never tutored before, but I have plenty of relevant experience. In my previous job I volunteered in the Education Department at Norwich Castle Museum, helping groups of all ages learn about history. I also conducted guided tours, object handling sessions, and craft activities.

During my Internship, I helped create an e-book which was used to teach undergraduate history students, as well as creating my own educational e-books. With this experience, I am able to help people engage with new subjects, and explain concepts in a clear and interesting way.

I'm a good writer and in the past have edited a student magazine, written articles, and won several prizes including the 2005 London Metropolitan University prize judged by Andrew Motion and Jackie Kay. My writing, proof-reading and editing skills are very strong, and make me well-equipped to help you improve your own writing.
Tutoring Approach: Since I work a core of part-time hours, I am usually available to tutor from 3.30pm in the afternoon in the Bloomsbury area, and could travel further.

At the moment I am just offering my services in helping people who are learning English as a foreign language, so I take quite a relaxed approach. I'm really happy to discuss books or films, help you understand documents you're unsure of, or just help you feel more confident chatting. I'd be happy to set assignments or small tasks which we can go over together. At this point I am happy for you to set the pace.

Since I am a recent university graduate and am now in further education, I understand the British education system quite well, and can help you with any issues you might have about this. I am also more than happy to read over your university assignments, as long as this does not breach any plagiarism guidelines.
