Personal Description: I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Physics department at the University of Sheffield. Since obtaining my PhD in 2007 I have worked in both University and Industry environments, using Physics and Maths to solve real problems. I am also an active ambassador on the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) project, and am engaged in projects which aim to promote interest in these subjects in schools.

Tutoring Experience: I have been working as a personal tutor for the last two years, in which I have been offering A level and GCSE Physics and Maths tuition. This tutoring has been given on a one to one basis with the students.
I have been part of a team teaching an undergraduate Maths course, this involved teaching problem solving strategies to undergraduate students in small groups and providing regular supervision to facilitate learning.
I have provided tuition and demonstration in a laboratory setting to undergraduate students. I found many students engaged with the practical nature of learning and I seek to promote practical application of knowledge where possible.

Tutoring Approach: I conduct tutoring sessions on a one to one basis with the student, and cover the core material of the syllabus. Where possible I relate this theory to everyday problems and occurrences in order to maximise retention of the material.
I explore a range of motivational and learning techniques in order to find the style the student feels most comfortable with as an individual.
