Personal Description: I am an approachable, friendly person with a positive attitude to life, who enjoys meeting new people. I am a good communicator, having learnt to speak in public, and can talk easily to people from many different walks of life. While I like things to be done properly, I am adaptable and take people as I find them. I often see the funny side of situations and try to bring a little humour into both my work and play. In my spare time, I enjoy keeping fit, reading and listening to music.

Tutoring Experience: I am a graduate historian with experience of tutoring at a number of levels, particularly GCSE and A Level. My main areas of specialism are 19th and 20th Century European history, modern British political history, and military history from the 18th century to the late 20th century. In addition, I have taught religious education up to GCSE level. I have considerable experience of working with a wide variety of people, having served for many years as a town councillor, a school governor and been employed as a charity worker. Currently I work for a local safeguarding children board.

Tutoring Approach: I have a relaxed but firm approach to tutoring, tailoring my coaching around the specific needs of students. My aim is always to work in partnership with the student in addressing areas of weakness, in particular essay writing and exam revision. In tackling a difficult subject area, my approach is to break down the topic into manageable sections, highlighting the key points, while encouraging discussion of the wider issues. Once the student feels more confident about a particular subject, I try to encourage them to think critically about their chosen topic to provide them with a good foundation for constructing answers to essays or exam questions.
