Information About Ferenc

Personal Description: Hi, I am based in an office in the Leith area of Edinburgh. I have been teaching for 20 years and am approachable and flexible. Students find our sessions busy, where the usual phrase is "that session went quick". I supply jotters and worksheets for my students, as well as off the cuff questions when required. I achieved a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) majoring in Physics and Mathematics, and sub-majoring in Chemistry. I am registered with the General Teaching Council of Scotland to teach these three subjects, and am fully "Enhanced Disclosed". References from previous parents/students are available.

Tutoring Experience: I have taught my three subject areas in Victoria, Australia, and at two High Schools in Scotland. I have taught at Edinburgh's Telford College and am now working with Forth Valley College. I have written unit guidelines for the SQA in Mathematics as well as Exam marking for this body and for the International Baccalaureate Organisation. I have an excellent understanding of students and their problems with respect to these subjects. I also have a good understanding of some of the reasons why students seek a tutor and therefore I can accommodate various approaches to teaching.

Tutoring Approach: Students come to my office where I normally work two to one. I have all of my resources in my office, hence my ability to be flexible with my approach. Sessions last for one hour normally, but this is negotiable, and I can develop a programme for a student or allow my student to lead me. My sessions are not a class, but based individually where the key aspect is observing how the student works and solves problems. From there, I can assess the students' skills, suggest improvements where required and give homework that is generally topic-based or something targeting a particular skill. I give diagnostic assessments in Mathematics and formatively assess my students continually. Normally the first session is free and discounts are available for those who pay in advance.
