Information About Emma

Personal Description: My name is Emma and I am 31 years old. I have a Journalism degree from the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside. I hold a Certificate in Education (with PGCE ). I also hold a current CRB enhanced disclosure certificate (2011).

Tutoring Experience: I am currently Head of Media Studies and teacher of GCSE English Literature and Language at a major independent sixth form college. I teach English and Media Studies both at GCSE and A-level.

I have experience of working and communicating with different groups of students and this has been evident in my current role where I have been flexible in my approach and taught one and two year courses since I took up the position.

Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is simple; I teach for understanding and I focus heavily on developing essay writing skills. Many pupils attempt to learn by simply memorizing facts. This only works for gaining marks at the lowest level; to achieve A* - C an ability to analyse and evaluate is essential. These are the skills I help to develop in my students by targeting my lessons to suit the learning style of the individual student. In addition, I focus heavily on teaching the basic techniques for answering exam questions. I prefer to tutor in my home as it is a pressure free environment.

Qualifications:
  • 2008: Certificate in Education - UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL LANCASHIRE (PGCE)
  • 2001: BA (Hons) Journalism, Cerificate in Education (Post Compulsory) - UNIVERSITY OF LINCOLN (Professional)

Native Language: English (British)
Availability: Weekends / Weekdays (evenings)

From Norman (4/5): (GCSE English) Emma is a lovley person we just had prblems with organising times for tuition as she was very busy with her work schedules.

Reply from Emma: Thanks for this Norman I hope Beth is doing well :-)

From Linda (5/5): (GCSE English) Emma is brilliant, Katie has really gained a lot of confidence with her English and feels that she has learned a lot. Emma is so positive and patient and put things a cross really well. Katie thoroughly enjoys her English lesson and looks forward to her lessons.

We just need to find somebody equally as good for maths next year !!

Reply from Emma: Thank you for the lovely comments. Katie is a pleaure to teach :)

From Sandra (5/5): (GCSE English) Although we only had 6 hours of tutoring and it was quite short notice, Emma had a lovely rapor with Fiona and worked hard to get the most out of the little time we had, and I would have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone. Thank you Emma

Reply from Emma: My pleasure. Thank you so much for taking the time to write some feedback. Please let me know how Fiona gets on. Take care x

From Cara (5/5): (GCSE English) Emma has quickly developed a great rapport with my 15 year old. With only a few weeks tuition my daughter has become much more confident in her English work. Emma has provided feedback after every lesson and I would not hesitate to recommend her.

Reply from Emma: Thank you Cara. She is a pleasure to teach and I always do my best to help bring out the best in each student I teach.
