I currently teach in a local secondary school as an English teacher. Since qualifying as a teacher give years ago, I have also done private tuition alongside as I love teaching on a one to one or small group basis and find it extremely rewarding seeing instant progress in a session. I am offering online lessons only during lockdown but ordinarily I am happy to travel to nearby Sheffield or Mansfield areas as well as Chesterfield.
As a practising teacher I have experience teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level English and English Literature. I have also tutored many students privately over the past five years. I am rated as an 'excellent' exam marker for AQA for GCSE English Literature and so have real insight into the curriculum and marking criterias.
I base my tutoring around developing skills rather than 'teaching to the test'. I am a firm believer that skills need to be developed in reading and writing for lifelong success rather than for the short time of exams. However, I have a range of techniques to help with exam preparation but that are more engaging than the regular, monotinous questions. Immediate feedback is paramount to help progress and I work on building student's confidence so they feel fully prepared for whatever lies ahead.
