Information About Andrew

Personal Description: I am a Professor of History at Seattle University, currently on sabbatical whilst completing my first book, which will be published by Edinburgh University Press.
I am a PhD graduate of Queen's University Belfast and have lectured in the UK and the US on a variety of topics.
My main research interests are in British and Irish history but I have taught university courses on all history, from Mesopotamia to Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Tutoring Experience: I have a full years experience at Seattle University, teaching courses on all aspects of history including Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, the Romans, the history of religion, the Crusades, the British Empire, the World Wars and the history of the United States of America.

I have also tutored at the university level at the University of Washington and Queen's University Belfast, tutoring subjects such as World War II, Ancient Civilisations, Scandanavian Folklore and Modern Irish History

Tutoring Approach: I make a point of discussing the subject with a tutee in our first session, establishing basic information such as their goals and the course requirements as well as their attitude towards the subject, the areas of the subject they are particularly interested in and the areas that they anticipate difficulties with.
The purpose of the first session is to set out a study plan, which can include micro-management of any given day down to the finest detail if necessary. Other, broader study plans are also useful in some situations. Which is most suitable for any given student will be assessed in the initial session.
Because my current project (the completion of my first book) has very low time dependency, I am able to be flexible to the needs of any given student and extra sessions are possible if necessary.
