Information About Adrian

Personal Description: I have just completed my Masters in Renewable Energy Engineering at Heriot-Watt University (acheiving a Distinction pass in the process). In 2010, I acheived my BSc (Hons) in Mathematics at the University of Dundee. Whilst I was in Dundee, I enjoyed playing in the University football league and I also have keen interests in martial arts, skiing and long distance running. I am also partial to the odd trip to the cinema and playing video games when I get the chance.

Tutoring Experience: I have been tutoring for four years now, this has involved working on a one to one basis with a number of students from various backgrounds and academic ability. Generally we would meet for a few hours each week and would then spend more time on past papers as the exam period got closer. As far as my student's grades and mathematical confidence are concerned, this technique has proven to be very successful despite it's simplicity.

Tutoring Approach: Since I began tutoring I have found that different students encounter different difficulties when learning Mathematics (myself and my classmates included). From my experience, students will have various strengths and weaknesses and as long as they are willing to learn, the weaknesses can definitely be overcome. It's just a matter of tailoring a suitable study routine and keeping it simple.

I should note that I usually offer my first hour free of charge. This free lesson allows the student and myself a chance to get to know each other a little and helps me decide on the best course of study for that particular student. Overall, it means that in the first paid lesson the student and I can crack straight on with the Mathematical problems without wasting time and money breaking the ice.

From Antoinette (4/5): (University Maths) On time and professional help.

From Hannah (5/5): (University Maths) Adrian has been a great help. He's helped me gain confidence and helped me work through my problem areas. Would definitely recommend him to any other university student looking for a little extra help.
Adrian is very flexible and approachable, and makes any challenges seem that little bit more feasible!

From Alison (5/5): (University Maths) yes we have made contact with Adrian. He is able to help us and we are in the process of setting up some tutoring sessions with my daughter.

From Christopher (5/5): (University Maths) I can highly recommend Adrian as a tutor for university level maths as his approach has enabled me to gain a fuller understanding of the requirements of my course. He has always been professional punctual and reliable in his attitude towards me as a student.

From Douglas (5/5): (University Maths) Adrain was very punctual and helpful in aiding me through my exams which involved maths which I initially struggled with. I ended up doing very well in all of my exams thanks to the different methods Adrian applied to make me understand the principles involved.

From Pam (5/5): (University Maths) Adrian is a pleasant, punctual man who is encouraging my daughter with her maths. Hopefully his enthusiasm will rub off on her!

From Jonathan (5/5): (A-Level Maths) Adrian has been my son's Advanced Higher Maths tutor for several lessons now. He is very professional in his approach and my son says he his very good at explaining the concepts. It is too early to tell what impact the lessons will have on the final grade, but Adrian has already made a real difference to my son's confidence in his abilities and the work he puts into the subject.

From Casper (5/5): (University Maths) Having Adrian as my personal tutor greatly helped me develop an understanding of university mathematics, when I first arrived in the UK. As an oversea student I had some difficulty in adjusting to the different teaching methods in the UK. Adrian quickly realized my needs and worked dedicated toward an overall progression with my course as well as a built-in revision of the methods taught differently in the UK.

Adrian was always punctual, well-prepared and knew his stuff very well. I have therefore no concerns in recommending Adrian to anyone, who needs any kind of mathematics tutoring!

Reply from Adrian: Thanks for providing feedback Cas.

Just have to say that it was great to learn more about the way different countries teach Mathematics. It's always good to broaden your horizon and I'm glad that I was able to help you adapt to the teaching methods in the UK.

-Adrian.

From Chelsea (5/5): (A-Level Maths) Adrian was an excellent tutor. He was very committed to the tutoring sessions and was always able to tailor the session to my difficulties and needs. Adrian started tutoring me following a bad start in Higher maths, I was failing the course, but with Adrian's help I managed to achieve an A in my final exam. I would definitely recommend Adrian as a highly capable and friendly tutor.

Reply from Adrian: Thanks for the review Chelsea, it is much appreciated.

Even though your initial venture into Higher was a bit of a struggle I do think my job was done a few weeks before the final exam. At that point you clearly showed that you were able to do the bulk of the questions without my help anymore and that is precisely what a tutor wants to see. (And it's always great when your student gets an A).

From Mhairi (5/5): (GCSE Maths) Adrian has been very punctual, caring to my daughters needs and has good communicating skills. I would recommend him .
