Information About Adam

Personal Description: I graduated from Newcastle University with a Masters degree in Chemistry and have held positions in the chemical industry where I gained invaluable practical application of the subject. Over the last year I have completed a teacher training course at Durham University where I am now a fully qualified secondary Science teacher.

I wish to build on my previous experience of private tuition as I find this extremely rewarding, however I aim to apply all the training I have acquired whilst carrying out my teacher training course.

I am a typical person who is easy to work with, friendly and I enjoy most other activities as anyone, for example sports.

Tutoring Experience: I come with quite an amount of teaching experience from my teacher training course, and have had the pleasure of actual classroom teaching.

During my teacher training course I have developed an understanding as to how to get the most out of my students through teaching Biology, Chemistry and Physics across the 11-16 age range and up to 6th form with Chemistry teaching. I have acquired various valuable teaching resources that aim to help pupil’s understanding as well as challenge students. Having taught to more than one class in more than one school I have gained an appreciation of the importance of changing a style of teaching to suit the learner's needs.

I have gained experience of one-on-one tutoring from my previous pupils, and have had pleasing results with students in the past.

Tutoring Approach: I like to tailor my style of teaching to the age group of my pupils, in the hope that I can explain what it is I am teaching in a way that can be understood.
I intend to spend as much or as little time on a topic as my tutee wishes, as for me the most important thing is for my tutee to understand what is being taught. I would prefer to spend less time on my pupil's strengths and more time strengthening their weaknesses.
I provide a brief recap at the beginning of each session, in the hope that little is forgotten, but to also engage my tutees mind into the subject I will be teaching.
My resources come from many textbooks, internet and classroom materials that I have been fortunate enough to acquire whilst on teaching practice, in a variety of hands on resources to some more challenging exam questions.I hold a good bank of past exam questions, and go through with my pupils what the question is looking for and how to get the marks from the questions. This has worked very well in the past and helps towards building confidence in weaker areas a pupil may have.

From Gill (5/5): (A-Level Chemistry) Adam has been tutoring my daughter in A level Chemistry for only a few weeks, but so far we are very happy; he is always punctual, very organised, he has pre-prepared work for them to cover in the sessions, and they spend the full 2 hours working. My daughter already feels that she has learned a lot and her confidence in Chemistry is increasing for her exams in June.
