If you are new to private music tutoring you are welcome to register with First Tutors: Music to attract potential tutees.
During the registration process you will be asked to declare which instruments you wish to teach, how much you will charge and to tell prospective tutees about your approach and experience.
Our advice to new music teachers would be to think carefully about which instruments you choose to offer. To increase enquiries for music tutors, we invite tutees to give feedback on a tutor so that the music teacher benefits from positive feedback. Obviously, if you are tutoring an instrument you are not terribly confident in, this feedback may not go so well! So think broadly about what your strengths are and build your reputation on that.
Your first tuition session is essential in giving the right impression to your tutee. But more important is getting this far. When you are matched with your First tutee, follow up quickly in arranging a lesson. Tutees are often anxious when seeking a tutor and will look to commence lessons as soon as possible. Not keeping an appointment, showing up late or arriving ill-prepared are all ways to lose a tutee before you've started so avoid these mistakes!
