Personal Description: I have a degree in Music from Durham University. I have over 30 years experience as a professional musician, largely working in the theatre. However, I have also worked in Jazz /
Rock / Folk / Easy Listening / MoR combos.

Tutoring Experience: I have taught Keyboards ( including Piano & Organ), privately, on and off throughout my working life .
I have also Musically directed Actors and Dancers, as well as singers, both Professionals and Amateur, in many Stage Productions, so am used to helping those who are less confident, as well as those who are very confident in their abilities, and am sensitive to the individual.
I have taught in two FE colleges (singing and Music Theory) and also in two music centres (Piano and Music Theory). I also taught singing Piano,Organ and Music Theory for the Bermuda School of music. I have arranged for Carl Davis and the late Roy Castle, amongst others, as well as Music Theatre arranging and Composing, combined with directing performers and professional musicians.

Tutoring Approach: I believe that Piano playing should rest on a solid technical foundation, so don't neglect that aspect. However I'm aware that this is recreation or a pastime for many, and like to have fun and a laugh with students. So I aim to provide tuition which will make you work - and practice- but which is also an enjoyable experience.

If you wish to go the exam route then that's fine - I have lots of experience of preparing for , and preparing others for exams ; if you prefer just to play, without the exam "hurdles" - whether your preference is for classical or popular styles, that's fine too - I am well experienced in this and am happy to tutor either path.

• 1976: BA Music Honours - Durham University. (Bachelors)
