Information About Laura

Personal Description: I am an experienced teacher and performer. I began to play the violin aged 3 studying with Brenda Smith on the Suzuki Method. I spent time studying at the junior department of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama before moving to Leeds and doing a three year undergraduate degree in Music, where I studied violin performance as a large part of my degree. I then gained a PGDip with Distinction in performance at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2008.

I have played and freelanced with various orchestras including the Amadeus Orchestra, Camerata Scotland, Leeds Youth Opera, the Rehearsal Orchestra, Boston Sinfonia Orchestra, the Lincoln Chamber Orchestra, the Leeds University Philharmonia, which I led in 2006-7, and the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland.

For nine years, I led Quartz String Quartet, in Scotland, appearing on both BBC and RTE1 television during a tour to Ireland. The quartet was also priviledged to be chosen to perform to Ex-President of the United States, Bill Clinton.

I currently work with the National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain.

Over the past 4 years, I have had private pupils and currently have a large group of pupils. I teach children from age 3 as I believe that it is a great thing to start playing an instrument from a young age. I have experience teaching children of all ages and also adults - it's never too late to learn.

If you want to know more - please do get in touch.

Tutoring Experience: I have 5 years teaching experience and will teach children and adults of all ages. You're never too old to learn an instrument. My pupils learn in a positive learning enviroment and have achieved distinction marks in ABRSM exams. I will teach children aged 3 upwards. Music theory I teach from age 5 upwards. I relocated from Manchester, where I had a large group of pupils, to Lincolnshire in June and I can give regular times or work on a week to week basis - whatever suits you best.

My fees are as follows: 1/2 hour lessons £10, 3/4 hour lessons £15 and hour lessons £20. Please phone or email me to chat more about your individual needs.

I have a selection of instruments in all sizes from 1/8 to full size avaiable for pupils to hire from £25 per quarter. Ideal for beginners or while you are looking to buy an instrument.

Please contact me on the phone numbers above or email me at
**E-mail Address Removed** and I will get back to you as soon as I can
.

Tutoring Approach: Lessons will be tailored to meet the needs of the student and the style of lesson depends on the age and experince of the student. I will prepare students to enter for ABRSM exams and orchestral auditions should they wish to take them, but there is no requirement to do so. I would encourage my students to seek all opportunities to play their instrument My pupils have all received distinction marks in their ABRSM exams.

From Martin (5/5): Laura is superb… not only with the level of attention that she provides our child with but also in her ability to be flexible and understanding. An asset, continuing to help our child develop alongside Primary School, preparing for the jump to secondary education.

From Marguerite (5/5): Really enjoyable and productive lessons - feels like I am definitely getting back to where I was, and picking up loads of extra tips along the way!
