Information About Claire

Personal Description: I am a young and vibrant teacher who enjoys performing and teaching a wide range of styles, from pop to classical. I have performed as a soprano in opera, musical theatre, choral ensembles specialising in pop and jazz and classical oratorio. I don't have one particular favourite type of music and love experimenting with different styles!

Tutoring Experience: I have been a freelance singing teacher since 2005, teaching both adults and young people. In 2003 and 2005 I acted as vocal coach for two university musical theatre productions (On The Town and Sweet Charity). For the past two years I have worked as a music workshop leader with English Pocket Opera Company. This involved travelling to a number of schools in London and running music and drama workshops before helping the children on their performance day at the Unicorn Theatre. I also work as a teacher with "Perform", leading after school classes that incorporate singing, dance and drama.

Tutoring Approach: I believe that music, and especially singing, is all about communication and fun. There is no greater feeling than learning to perform something to such a standard that it really moves an audience. I have always taught using a combination of technical exercises and repertoire. While I do use exercises to explain the basics of singing technique, I think it is really important for students to be able to apply what they have learned to different songs. I do not mind what type of repertoire my students want to learn and am equally happy to suggest what songs might suit them or let them bring along a song that they have been desperate to sing! Singing is a fantastic way to express yourself and show how individual you are. I love encouraging people to reach their full potential and having lots of fun along the way!

From Jan (5/5): Claire, a huge thank you so far for your guidance and support. I really look forward to our sessions and even in such a short time I think I've started to see some improvement. You create such a relaxed and fun atmosphere with your positiveness, encouraging and confidence boosting style, which certainly helps reduce those newbie nerves. Love your technical explanations which have me visualising all manner of things but somehow make sense. I never knew there was so much to singing and I'm loving the whole learning experience. Thanks again and here's to many more fun filled sessions, Jan x

Reply from: Claire: Thanks so much Jan! I too really enjoy the sessions and think you have shown great improvement. I'm so glad you have lots of fun - after all, that's what singing's all about! Claire x
