Personal Description:

I am a graduate of the London College of Music where I studied the recorder with Piers Adams and Flute with Philip Rowson. I have been teaching since 2003 and am keen to work with students of all ages and abilities and am happy to enter pupils for exams, competitions and festivals as I am very keen for them to get as much platform experience as possible. I also teach piano, keyboard, singing and music theory.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching since 2003 and have been very successful both as a performer and teacher. My own successes as a performer include winning the St Andrews Recital Musician of the Year 2000, the London Mozart Players Prize, the Bromley Kent Memorial Trophy and I also won the student prize for services to the school whilst at the London College of Music. My students have also been very successful and I have won several scholarships to all the private schools in the Norfolk area. Previous successes include scholarships to St Felix School, Wymondham College, The Norwich School and Norwich High School for Girls. In 2012, my students won the St Andrews Senior Woodwind Cup, the St Andrews Keyboard Trophy, the St Andrews Senior Recorder Trophy, the Harrold Taylor Memorial Trophy, the St Andrews Senior Recital Musician of the Year Trophy and the St Andrews Junior Recital Musician of the Year Trophy. In 2014, my students won the St Andrews Junior Recital Musician of the Year, the St Andrews Junior and Senior Recorder Cups and the Elaine Garvey Memorial Trophy for Piano. In 2015 my students won the St Andrews Junior Recital Musician of the Year and the St Andrews Junior and Senior Recorder Cups. and in previous years my students have been holders of the Piano Duet Trophy and the Chamber Music Trophy. In July 2018 one of my piano students was accepted for the Aldeburgh Young Musicians Platform and I have also had several other students shortlisted for this Young Musician’s platform. In February 2016, one of my students was awarded 2nd prize in the Beccles Young Musician of the Year competition. In February 2018, one of my students won the Beccles Young Vocalist competition and then she won the District Finals against others from Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire and then went through to the Regional Finals representing Beccles Rotary Club against competitors from London and the Home Counties. In February 2019, another of my students was awarded third prize in the Beccles Rotary Club Young Vocalist competition. In February 2020 one of my students was awarded the Beccles Rotary Club Young Vocalist of the Year prize and one of my students also came 2nd in the Beccles Rotary Club Young Vocalist competition. I have also gained some very good exam results in my 17 years of teaching including lots of distinctions and merits as well as passes for their exams. I enter students for ABRSM, Trinity College and London College of Music exams but I also enjoy working with students who do not wish to enter for exams. I incorporate music theory in all lessons and in November 2019, one of my students scored 100% in her ABRSM grade 5 theory exam which is the maximum marks awarded and gained the highest marks in the country. In August 2020 one of my students was awarded 100% in his Grade 7 piano exam with Trinity College which is the maximum marks awarded and the highest marks in the country.

Tutoring Approach:

I work with students of all ages and abilities and I have lots of experience of working with children with learning difficulties including Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Tourettes Syndrome and Aspergers Syndrome. I have a laid back approach to all lessons as I want my students to enjoy learning all musical styles. I also work well under pressure when and if required to gain the best possible marks for competitions and examinations.
