New to Language Teaching?

If you are new to giving private language lessons you are welcome to register with First Tutors: Languages to attract potential learners.

During the registration process you will be asked to declare which languages you wish to teach, how much you will charge and to tell new learners about your approach.

Choosing your Languages

Our advice to new teachers would be to think carefully about which languages you choose to offer and the level to which you feel you can comfortably offer lessons. To increase enquiries for language teachers, we invite learners to give feedback about a teacher (which is approved by the teacher) so that the teacher benefits from positive recommendations. Obviously, if you are teaching a language that you are not terribly confident in, this feedback may not go so well! So think broadly about what your strengths are and build your reputation on that.

Beginning Language Teaching

Your first teaching session is essential in giving the right impression to your learner. But more important is getting this far. When you are matched with your learner, follow up quickly in arranging a lesson. Learners are often anxious when seeking a language teacher and will look to commence lessons as soon as possible. Not keeping an appointment, showing up late or arriving ill-prepared are all ways to lose a learner before you've started so avoid these mistakes!
