Personal Description: I am a widely published author, and former journalist, and I have recently completed a PhD in Creative Writing at Newcastle University. I am able to teach all aspects of creative writing, from writing an effective speech or authoring a full-length book, through to crafting a poem or writing up a family history in an interesting and engaging way. I am able to travel to appointments or teach students at my home in North Leeds.

Teaching Experience: I have taught creatvie writing to students of all ages and all levels.

Teaching Approach: I believe that one-to-one teaching can be key to unlocking the potential of many writers. For instance, lessons learnt early in life that you are 'no good at English', 'can't spell' or 'don't have a good imagination' can put adults off writing forever. I believe that one-to-one tuition can make wriitng one of the most satisfying activities in existence. In addition, for some individuals, learning in a group can be stressful and intimidating - especially if they wish to write about events they have experienced which may be associated with difficult memories. Conversely, advanced writers may need to be stretched further than is possible in a group situation in order to reach their full potential. My approach to writing gives students access to teaching tailored to suit their individual needs, whether they wish to write poetry, memoir/autobiography or fiction.
