  1. How will I hear from prospective learners?

We will e-mail you when a prospective learner requests to hear from you and invite you to log in to your member area and respond to the request as soon as possible. Please note that teachers who do not respond to learners (neither accept or decline) will have their profiles suspended so other teachers can benefit from the opportunities.

  2. How do I commence lessons?

Once the learner has accepted your offer of lessons we will send you their contact details so you can call and arrange a first meeting. We would recommend acting on this quickly.

  3. How do I change my profile?

Once you have registered you can log in at any time to alter your profile or fees through your member's area.

  4. How do I pay my First Tutors: Arts & Crafts fees?

You can pay by Paypal or by credit/debit card online. We will e-mail you monthly to request payment.

  5. I understand learners can create feedback about me, how does this work?

After a couple of weeks, we ask learners to create a brief comment about their teacher. This is because the tuition industry works on referrals: the more good feedback you receive as a teacher, the more enquiries you are likely to attract. Of course, as a teacher you can also reply to any feedback.

  6. Do I need a CRB check to be a teacher?

No, though it helps to have references available for parents to see.

  7. What qualifications do I need to be a teacher?

Given the diversity of subjects on offer through First Tutors: Arts & Crafts, it is impossible for us to be prescriptive. You will know whether or not you have sufficient subject knowledge to teach and whether your qualifications seem credible to a parent or adult learner.

  8. Do you employ teachers?

No, all teachers work on a self-employed basis.
